There’s a new movement afoot. One that blends Hollywood starlets, programmers, tweens, tweeters and your general do-gooders. It’s a new media phenomenon that has Demi Moore tweeting "sign me up" and board members setting up profiles on Facebook. It’s called “technology for good” and it’s headed your way. Not too long ago, I uprooted myself and my family and moved from California to New Mexico and I still haven’t made many friends—but this may be par for the course.
New Mexico became a territory in 1850, yet wasn’t granted statehood until 1912. Utah came before it, as did Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and both Dakotas. Oklahoma, known as “Robber’s Roost,” still beat out this place by five years. In fact, my new home was the fourth-last state; only Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii came later. But New Mexico’s 62-year waiting period between territory and statehood represents the longest such stretch in US history—and not without good reason. Read on…
