Edmund Burke was right when he said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Women, too, of course. Change.org: "On February 22, Amazon.com responded to consumer pressure and removed dolphin, porpoise, and whale meat from their online store after the Environmental Investigation Agency and Humane Society International exposed them for selling whale bacon, whale jerky, canned whale meat, and more than 100 other products. But they have yet to adopt a clear policy that Amazon.com will never sell these items. Quietly pulling those products from their site is not enough. It’s time for Amazon.com to put a permanent ban on whale, dolphin, and porpoise meat in place." >>>Take Action |

CREDO: "The EPA's first ever rule limiting carbon pollution—known as the Carbon Pollution Standard—applies only to unlikely-to-be-built, new coal-fired power plants. It is riddled with loopholes allowing new sources of pollution including some new coal plants. It does nothing to reduce carbon pollution from much more significant existing sources. The EPA will now accept public comments on the rule—and as it weighs the public's reaction, we need to show that we expect much, much more from EPA to regulate carbon pollution." >>>Take Action |

Center for Food Safety: "In the U.S., we pride ourselves on having choices and making informed decisions. Under current FDA regulations, we don't have that choice when it comes to GE ingredients in the foods we purchase and feed our families. This led the Center for Food Safety to submit a legal petition to the FDA demanding that the agency require the labeling of GE foods. In response, Senator Barbara Boxer (CA) and Representative Peter DeFazio (OR) have authored a bicameral Congressional letter in support of our legal petition and will be urging their fellow Members on Capitol Hill to sign onto their letter. Please email your U.S. Senators and Representative and urge them to join the Boxer-DeFazio letter in support of labeling!" >>>Take Action |

CREDO: "If Alberta Canada's tar sands oil fields are fully developed, an area of boreal rainforest the size of Florida will be eviscerated, leaving in its wake only giant ponds of toxic wastewater. It's obvious why this would pose a massive threat to all wildlife species who reside there, including birds, caribou and the iconic spirit bear.
But instead of preserving the habitat caribou need for their survival, the Canadian government's answer is to blaze ahead with tar sands oil extraction, and kill thousands of wolves who would naturally prey on the caribou. The Ministry of the Environment's plan calls for aerial shooting, and poisoning with bait laced with strychnine -- a particularly painful type of poison.
Tell Prime Minister Harper: Stop your planned wolf killings! Preserve wolf and caribou habitat, and stop the irresponsible development of tar sands oil which threatens all of us." >>>Take Action |

NRDC: "The nuclear crisis that began in Fukushima, Japan in March 2011 was the world's worst nuclear accident since 1986. With more than six million people living within the 10-mile evacuation zones around the 104 U.S. nuclear reactors, we cannot afford to just stand by and hope the worst won't happen here. Urge your senators and representative to tell the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to make nuclear plants in America safer today." >>>Take Action |

Sum of Us: "Trader Joe’s CEO is refusing to sign the Fair Food Agreement with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), a group of farm workers in Florida who have successfully pressured corporate giants like Taco Bell and McDonald’s to agree to ensure that farm workers in their supply chains get treated humanely and get paid at least one penny more per pound of tomatoes they pick. Tell TJ’s to pay the workers who pick their tomatoes at least one more penny per pound, and to ensure that those workers are treated fairly." >>>Take Action |

Credo: "So-called pink slime is a beef-like product created by grinding together connective tissue and beef scraps normally used in dog food, and treated with ammonia hydroxide to kill salmonella and E. coli. It is "not meat" according to a 35-year veteran USDA microbiologist, and was recently rejected by the likes of McDonalds, Taco Bell and Burger King. So it's pretty disturbing that the USDA continues feeding this stuff to kids, and plans to buy seven million pounds of it for school lunches. Tell the USDA: Stop putting pink slime "Lean Beef Trimmings" in kids' school lunches." >>>Take Action |

NDRC: "In order to lure Congress to open all ocean waters to oil drilling, House Speaker Boehner (R-OH) has introduced a bill that would direct some of the drilling royalties into highway work, even though no money would actually be available soon enough to meet our pressing transportation needs. Urge your representative to vote No on H.R. 7 and to not sacrifice our lands and oceans to a highway funding gimmick." >>>Take Action |

Green America: "Since the 1970s, mountaintop removal (MTR) coal mining has reportedly destroyed wildlife habitat, poisoned water supplies and harmed communities throughout Appalachia. Additionally, health hazards suspected to be linked to the toxic byproducts of mountaintop removal include cancer and liver and kidney disease. As concerned citizens, we are joining Green America in asking Arch Coal to stop mountaintop removal mining and support alternative sources of energy instead." >>> Take Action |

Peace Action West: "January 27, 2012 is the first National Day of Remembrance for Downwinders. Downwinders are the people across the US who were exposed to the deadly effects of nearly 1,000 nuclear explosions in the Nevada desert during the era of nuclear testing.
Fifteen years ago, the US signed the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, which would ban all nuclear testing and prevent us from creating any more Downwinders. But because the Senate has not yet ratified the treaty, it has been languishing in limbo.
Tell your senator to support ratification of the CTBT, which will make the people of the US and the world safer from the deadly effects of nuclear weapons and nuclear testing." >>>Take Action |
